We’re self-professed “dancing fools.” We (Sid Korpi and Anthony Kaczor) met at an Irish Ceili (social dance) in January 2004; then we attended a Cajun dance; we followed that up with a night of swing dancing and, later, attended a ballroom dance that ran the gamut of styles.
Had we never dared to take the dreaded “beginners’ lessons”—in a wide variety of dance styles and from a wide array of dance teachers over the past two-plus decades—we might never have gotten together … and you wouldn’t be reading this spiffy webpage!
We began teaching private lessons together in 2006, hoping to fill the niche between group classes through community education and the über-costly chain dance schools that specialize in giving high-level private lessons and grooming people to enter dance competitions. Not that there’s anything wrong with that; it’s just not what we’re about. We’re out to ensure everyone who wants to can have a terrific time on the dance floor, and if we create more playmates for ourselves along the way, so be it. The local dance community is a very welcoming one, and they hope you’ll join us and them. Visit our “Where to Dance” page for links to several of our all-time favorite dance bands and their respective performance schedules.
Speaking of the dance community, we love community education—that’s why they also teach a Social Dance Sampler Class. There’s great energy in a group, but we realize that sometimes students want extra assistance/individual attention, though at the same time they might feel embarrassed being singled out in a crowd; conversely, they might desire to have greater challenges and more advanced moves presented to them that would take them beyond the group class’s itinerary. That’s where Two Right Feet Dance’s private lessons take over.
Two Right Feet Dance’s motto: “Forget Fred and Ginger—we’ll have you dancing like Fred and Wilma in no time!” will make particularly good sense when you visit our famous Flintstones shrine in our basement. Our quirky, eclectic interests have led us to, among other things, have roles in several independent films. Numerous local movies have been filmed, in whole or in part, in our historic 1886 Victorian home in South Minneapolis. Check out the link to the B Movies for more info on some of these.
